As a part of the HSBCnet ‘Uses and Principles’ document, I looked at how buttons were used throughout the system.
Accepted Patterns
Using Google I searched for images of system dialogue boxes and interfaces that included buttons – as the end-users for the buttons were almost entirely Windows users I decided to focus my attention on the results that showed Windows interfaces. This led to the eventual discovery of an overarching pattern for the ordering of buttons which I used to guide the specification of an ordering system for HSBCnet
Colour Choices
At the same time as looking at a definitive order for buttons, I also organised the colour system for buttons down from 30 different variants to just 7. This included primary and secondary call-to-action buttons, each with rest hover and active states as well as a disabled button style.
